ok guys I installed MSI afterburner and set custom fan profiles etc and when I shut down my system and restart it and the MSI app loads the ATI fan blasts at 100% speed before calming down to the speed I set in Afterburner.... it happens every time from a pc shut down how can I stop the fan from blasting to 100% at start up????

I swear this is getting annoying now... I'm regretting actually leaving nvidia now....

Usually this is because the fan speed in the CCC overdrive is enabled and set to 100%, try disabling manual fan speed control or setting it lower in the CCC.

tried it didnt work... this time before i can accept the changes MSI afterburn would make to my system the fan blasted to 100%..... i believe this was due to enabling manual fan control in overdrive even thow it was set to the minimum i had it on afterburner

any more suggestions???

my driver is 10.4a

My ASUS 5970 does it too on start up, has done since day 1, it's never bothered me. Can I ask why it's an issue mate, it's only a quick blast then settles down.

I'm not using afterburner to set fan speeds ATM.

when i have overdrive unchecked with manual fan control unchecked the fan only spins up at post (THIS IS NORMAL) for a few sec and on windows load the fan acts normal....

HOWEVER if i set overdrive on and manual fan control on and reduce it to minimum speed and then shutdown and restart my system the fan once windows is loading (on desktop and ati drivers kick in the fan hit 100% blast and then calms down to the speed that is set in overdrive manual fan control...

when setting MSI afterburner on and setting custom profiles for fan and DISABLING ccc overdrive and manual fan control and shutting down the computer and starting back up once on the desktop when windows ask if it should allow the changes MSI is making and you click ok the FAN blasts again to 100% before it calms down to the fan graph set in MSI afterburner....

im using MSI afterburner 1.5.1

i know the FAN hits 100% speed ON POST (THIS IS NORMAL and does it for like a quick 2 sec blast) its the graphic card checking if everything is working oright ... im talking about the windows environment it blast up to 100% on desktop and then calms down to the set speed....

once on the desktop when windows ask if it should allow the changes MSI is making and you click ok the FAN blasts again to 100% before it calms down to the fan graph set in MSI afterburner....

Are you referring to windows UAC " user account control " where it asks your permission to let a program run?

ok i disabled UAC now the prompt for MSI afterburner dont come up but still the FAN blast 100% and then settles when MSI afterburner applies its custom fan profile....

Windows 7 and XP do this on my 4870. I think it's just a sign the driver is kicking in it's temperature monitoring.

Normal, and not much of a problem.

I don't think there's anything you can do it's just the way the ATI drivers work, the fan goes to 100% and then only afterwards are the fan settings invoked.

As a perfectionist all I can say is that you just have to get used to things like this (that seem sloppy) with ATI.

oh well i was hoping for a fix maby drivers or bios update....

i guess i have to run automatic fan control by ATI (it dont blast at 100% on auto when windows drivers load)... but i liked my cooler temps with manual MSI afterburner settings.... it would just annoy me too much hearing the fan hit 100% in windows and then settle...

To be honest man you're making mountains out of molehills.

To have the best single slot card on the planet it's very little to put up with.
