I bought 2 5870's back in September. Awesome cards but I just learned today that disabling the Catalyst AI disables Crossfire. That really sucks, since the AI gives me plenty of issues with different games and I'd really like to play with it off. Solely because of this I'm looking to sell my 5870's and pick up a 5970 so I can have the best of both worlds. My question is about the 5970, with it having 2 GPU's on a single PCB, will my Catalyst Manager read this as a linked setup or just a single card?

did a vantage test tonight on my 5970, with CAt AI Disabled - just to see what difference.

9,698 with it Disabled 21121 with it disabled,so it's ok there i guess:) This on a QX9650@ 4Ghz and all card settings at stock (for the time being)

Still counts as crossfire - just more efficient and on one board. Just keep catalyst AI on standard, you shouldn't get any problems with this (unless you play windows 95/98 games - and in that case disabling it has no performance difference).

This is ridiculous. If I had known this beforehand I wouldn't have wasted my money on ATI. I would have just bought a couple of 295's tbh. It's absolutely ridiculous that they would tie in Crossfire with this annoying Catalyst AI feature. In 3 of the games I play regularly, Empire:Total War/Napoleon Total War and Street Fighter 4, the AI causes problems for me. In Empire it ruins my screen refresh rate and the game looks like it flickers, in Napoleon while fighting a battle the draw distance of almost everything has been reduced to a small circle around the immediate area meaning I can't see where any of my units are or the enemies, and in Street Fighter 4 half of the stage backgrounds give me horrendous lag. The only way around it is to disable AI, which of course completely kills one card and forces the other to work at 100% with bad airflow and high temps. Thanks for forcing us to gimp our games so you can score higher in benchmarks, ATI.

Thanks for your time and your help guys. I might start looking into replacing these ATI bricks with Nvidia ones. Now gentlemen, if you will excuse me, I'm off to the ATI forums to raise a stink :P
