5970 upgrade

I think my 5970 is on the way out - I still need to check the PSU but so far it's crashing almost as soon as it hit's 3D clocks, and I've noticed some pixilation on the desktop.

It's not overheating as it's been watercooled all its life and never gone much over 60, and I've tried it in the second PCIe slot (The first one looks to have been a bit bent by the weight of the card).

Going to have one more go at reviving it tonight, and got a spare GPU from work to check the board but if it is on the way out, what would be a good replacement, preferably under £300?

Out of the 3 the 7950 is the best value

A stock 7950 is a little faster than a 5970, and with an overclock it will pull ahead even further. If I was upgrading from a 5970, ideally I wouldn't aim for any lower than a 7950 / 670.

Out of the 3 the 7950 is the best value

That 7950 looks like a good deal, it'd leave me enough spare cash to grab a CPU fan and sell off all my WC, as I feel it'd be somewhat overkill having a full WC loop just for a 950 i7 at 4ghz

Does anyone have an ETA on ATIs next round of cards?

I would keep the WC loop for the i7 950, to get the best out of modern cards running your 950 @4.0 is a big plus. It is still a very good CPU but you need to keep the clockspeed up.

Edit: yes the HD 7950 is the one to go for, the best bang for buck easily.

I was planning on keeping the OC, I just think it would be just as easy to keep at 4 on air with push and pull typhoons, plus it would make moving the case about easier as well.

Those CPUs produce a lot of heat, my i7 9xx when I run it at 4.0ghz or higher does awful things to a Corsair H50 cooler, I have another paired up with a Corsair H70 cooler and the result is the same, very toasty.

Ah that could be a problem, mine never gets to 60 with the loop on it so figured air could cope with it. May just remove one of the rads then.

I love my 7950, plays everything really well and it's at just the right price point. When the AMD bundle came with it, it was a no brainer. Still an excellent price.

With rumors about that AMD could drop a new line in the next month or so I'm going to wait a bit and see where to go with my GFX (borrowing a 7850 from work at the moment, which works surprisingly well).

Stuck a Phanteks cooler on my CPU instead of the WC and it seems to keep things well under control at 4Ghz, idles around 40 and highest I've seen so far is 63 under load - it's huge though!
