59fps cap stutter issue?

Hey all,

Put this in this section because I've only noticed it since getting my Titan Xs.

So on my monitor I get Vsync lag. Like many others I put my FPS to 59 to eliminate the lag but I find that I get like a weird stuttery jumpiness going on. It's nowhere near as smooth despite being 59fps. Is this something to do with my GPUs? Any advice would be great because while in some stuff input lag is fine, it can be annoying in CS and GTA etc.

Cheers.

Yeah but if you cap it to 59 or one less than your refresh frare you get no input lag.

I don't notice any input lag at 60 and I have an IPS panel, strange.

Sounds more like a driver issue to me have you checked for beta drivers ? didn't they release some gta V drivers that fixes xfire and sli issues ?

On a 60hz monitor you will get stutter at anything that isn't 30 or 60fps. This is because monitors can only correctly display frame rates either at or a multiple of its refresh rate. At 60fps the monitor displays a new frame every refresh. At 30fps the monitor displays a new frame every other refresh. At something like 59 (which can't be evenly divided into 60) the monitor can't display each new frame in even intervals so you get double frames which is what you're perceiving as jumpiness. I don't know where you heard capping at 59 as opposed to 60 prevents input lag because that's wholly untrue.

The folk you're talking about might actually be playing at 59.94fps on a display that supports this NTSC standard (59.94Hz).

If your monitor is refreshing at 60Hz but your game is running at 59fps you'll experience stutter every second: 58 frames each shown for 1/60 of a second, 1 frame shown for 1/30 of a second.

Works for me, but not without issues unfortunately.

Ah ok. Shame. I bought a ROG Swift to use for competitive play, but the colours aren't for me, sadly.

I read this tip in one of the GTA V threads somewhere. Disable Vsync in game and force on through Nvidia driver. Also set framerate limit in RSS to 60. I'm not sure if its neccessary to do both but my framerate now locks at exactly 59.9fps in game and I dont get any stutter.
