Right, my 40d has given up the ghost and died on me, I'm not too happy as I loved this camera, but what to do now?

I was using the camera with the EF-S 17-85 IS lense as my main walkabout lens, but the lens isnt that great and I have been looking at getting a different lens to replace it (no idea what though).

My choices are the 5D MK III and the 24-105 F4 L IS lens which would be a great improvement on what I had. Or, the 7D and ??? No idea on the lense for this camera.

I mainly shoot people or cityscapes, and the wider lenses suit me best, but there are times when I like a bit of a zoom handy. Currently have been using a 20mm F2.8 canon lens and the "nifty fifty" which is great for portraits.

Can I have people's opinions on what you would choose and why please. Need to get one soon but really stuck on what to decide on.

Many thanks in advance for your help on this.

I'm not too worried about getting rid of my lenses as I only have th one EF-Smlense and I'm not happy with the picture quality from it, hence I have been using athe 20mm F2.8 and the 50mm F1.8 as they produce higher quality pictures in my oppinion. So only really getting rid of one lens which I'm happy to do.

Ism leaning towards the 5D MKIII as overall it better for my needs, but might see what this new FF offering is before I makes decision.

Well thats it, gone an ordered a Canon 5D MKII and the 24-105 L lens, should be with me by the weekend. Cant flippin wait.

OFC then ill be on here asking about all the differetn functions it has compared to my 40D

My 5D MKIII should be here by tuesday (before i hope) and i have goe from teh 40D to teh SD MKIII, plus the kit L lense. Should eb a fantastic leap forward and cant wait to see teh results.

Ok, another question, im just full of them :)

Is there a cheaper alternative for the wireless file transfer adaptor, other than the Canon one?

Well, my shiny new 5D MKIII and kit 24-105 lens are sat in the local DHL delivery deopt, and will be delivered tomorrow - BUT IM IN LONDON TOMORROW AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Right, just got back from London, and collected my delivery frotm eh neighbour (god i love DHL at the moment), I have unboxed teh 5D and taken a few unboxing pics, when i remember the site i used to use a few years ago for uploading them, I will post them on here.

First impression OMG WOW, its a dream to hold, the L lens is fantastic. Charging the battery atm so i can actually use it for longer than 5 mins (litterally).

Will get pics up tomorrow, then teh fun begins, actual shots and asking you lot how the dam settings all work :)

Ok, another question for you all, well two actually.

My "nifty fifty" has dust behind the rear element, I cant see how it got in there, or how to get it out. Can the dust be removed in any way? Is it worth sending off to Canon/some other place for it to be cleaned?

If the answer is "NO", the what would you do. Replace the 50mm with either the Canon 50mm F1.4 or the Sigma 50mm F1.4 (sigma seems to have a better picture quality, at least from the reviews i have read).

Or go for the 85mm Sigma? But, for the same price I could get the Canon 100mm F2.8 L Macro lens. I dont know what would be best now?

Has anyone gone through this themselves? What did you decide?
