Hi,

Hoping someone might be able to help as I'm a total Networking n00b.

I tether from my phones 5g via usb to my PC, been doing it for nearly 12 months now.

There is an intermettent problem whereby the PC just won't seem to pick up the connection.

I have to go through a process of restarting the PC and Phone over and over, as well as peforming a 'Network Reset'. Eventually it will pick it up after much frustration and swearing.

Any thoughts on what could be the issue? I've gone down the google rabbit hole several times but to no avail, I've turned off 'Fast Start' for the shut down options which hasn't solved it.

Any help much appreciated!

5G can be patchy at best, even when the phone may show a strong signal. If the phone isn't actually connected to the network the hotspot may not connect correctly.

Probably first thing to do is try with 4G and see if you get the same issue

Appreciate where you are coming from, the phone is recieving 5G signal at the location of the PC without issue though. I am able to use the 5G hotspot of the phone and connect wirelessly using a dongle fine.

The issue appears to arise after the phone has been turned on/off, and the PC then won't recognise the Network from tethering (via usb) anymore.

Please is anyone able to help with this?

'Ethernet 3 doesn't have a valid IP configuration'.

I'm at a loss.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the phone itself has issues with USB tethering. Which phone is it?

When it pops up with the valid IP configuration error, you could try resetting the IP in command prompt to see if it helps:
Code:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Another thing, have you tried a different USB cable?

Thanks for the response, appreciate it.

It's a Poco F3. I've tried numerous usb cables and deduced it's not that.

It seems to become a problem if the phone has run out of battery between the last and current time it is tethering. So it will be working, the phone will run out of battery overnight say (not tethering), and then when I go to re-tether it doesn't work.

I'll try reset the ip as you've described next time it happens!
