Following on from the Golf GTI Thread. A friend would like to know what you lot would buy if you needed 4 seats but a enjoyable experience.

Looked at
Golf GTI - bottom of the barrel at 5k.
Mazda3/6 MPS - Also bottom of the barrel
Skoda Octavia - looks a bit bland/taxi
Subaru Impreza - Not really sure what ones I should be looking at for 5k? (Newer shape unmolested or a heavily modified older example)
350Z - 2 seater, not practical.

Any other cars?
Integra could be a shout. or something similar with 4 seats?

Thanks

Michael

How big do those rear seats need to be?

Supra/soarer
3 series (e36/e46)
190e cosworth (to be different)
one of the hot hatches focus/fiesta/clio/cooper s

The impreza can be a minefield, there's so many different versions, different engines and different trims :( Join up on a owners club forum tbh and start there. http://nesf.forumotion.co.uk/ is the one I was looking at when I was considering a scooby.

The Mazda's for 5k...
5K should get you a pretty good 6, I'd expect low miles with full history and VVT/Timing chain already been done for that. There's a few for sale at the moment, if there's any you find pop a link up and we can have a look. Worth noting that the 55 plate and the early 06 plate ones are only 290 tax instead of 490 so they do have a little bit of a premium on them.

As for 3's, there's a couple of companies in the UK keeping the Mk2 price up for some unknown reason, once of which seems to sell absolute tat as "gleaming examples" and ask around 10k.

However the Mk1 3's have gradually been coming down in price and I've see a number of them now sub 5k for what I would say were canny examples. Again a members forum would be a good place to start http://mpsowners.co.uk/ is the one I've ended up on.

350Z whilst not practical.... its a Z!
Teg Type R?

I'd also be biased and say Integra. But at £5k you'll either be getting the bottom end of DC5s, or that's good money for a well looked after DC2! Both great machines!

Just thinking...

2.2 CDTi Civic Type S?

I was VERY close to buying one before I bought my new 6, whilst a world away from the performance imho they handle nicely, are fairly nippy and the remaps for them are fairly cheap. Seen loads of those at sub 5k

In context, I can't see a diesel civic being that much 'fun' when compared to a Impreza or a 350Z! :o

Liking the look of the DC2 and DC5.

Is the only difference between the 5 and the 2 the fact that DC2 is B18 engine and DC5 is K20?

Both have LSD? both handle well?
