Ok I apologise in advance in case there is a thread already started but I will be purchasing a new 27inch 5k iMac and will be opting for the standard 8gb ram supplied as the additional ram costs a fortune if customised.

What ram would you recommend I get and is it possible to install faster ram.

Thanks.

EDIT... I have just read somewhere that the 2015 Skylake model can have 64bg ram installed, is this true?

Officially it's 32gb. Unofficially it's 64gb. Yes you can put faster ram in it as well. Think it might be limited to 2133mhz or something.

I've got a late 2014 model (may be early 2015) and I just bought a 16GB kit from Crucial for about £70 to add to the default 8GB. The iMac runs 24GB now and I've never had any issues through lack of RAM.

Just seen 32gb 2100mhz on the bay that described as being the right type going for £199.00 so I've contacted the seller to be certain and await his reply.

I got the above mentioned Ram (Kingston) which is actually 2133mhz and installed it in about 5 mins. A nice easy job. Next purchase will be Final Cut Pro.
