5th gen ipod help

OK so ive got an old 5th gen ipod which has completly frozen. Holding down the middle and menu buttons is not seeming to help either. The ipod is set up for a pc but i charge it off of my mac. The problem occurred when connecting to the mac, nothing appeared on the mac and the ipod said o not disconnect. After a while i disconnected as it had clearly frozen. And now its still frozen, tried connecting it again and nothing.

Am i right in thinking the next plan of attack is to just disconnect and reconnect the battery?

any ideas welcome

Can you connect it to your PC?

Try resetting it again, wouldn't recommend taking it apart while on either

nope PC is about 400 miles away.

Problem is im on holiday and i have a 7 hour car journey back.....it would be suicidal without all my music

According to the iPod reset instructions, you first need to set the Hold-switch to Hold and then turn it back. Then hold down the Menu and Center button.
