More problems!
After finally getting my new PC working properly, I left Asus PC probe running while I had a game of Supreme Commander, to watch my CPU temp.
The CPU was fine - it never went above 35 degrees :cool: But I got a beeping warning during an intense part of the game. Accorcding to PC probe, my 5V rail was too high. (5.47V.)

The other rails are a bit odd too:

Now they are:
Vcore = 1.45
3.3Volt = 3.38
5Volt = 5.45
12Volt = 12.35

So clearly they're off a bit. Is this a problem? Is there anything I can do about it?

The system also rebooted during a game a while back, which may well have been connected.

This is with a brand new PSU, by the way - a 435Watt Hiper. The rest of the system is:

Opteron 165 (At stock)
Asus A8V-VM SE mobo
1GB Crucial Ram
Radeon X850XT

Thoughts?

The 5v rail does look a bit high, if memory serves the ATX tolerances are stated as +-5% for the 12v and 5v rails. However software doesn't always give an accurate reading, the only way to be sure is to use a multimeter. :)

Hmm.
If I got a meter and the readings were what Asus is telling me they are, would I have grounds to have the psu replaced? I mean do you think this is actually dangerous to my hardware or not?

I just had a wild thought and plugged in an extra optical drive to see if that brought it down. No such luck unfortunately :)

If the readings are correct then it doesn't meet the ATX specifications so you should be able to get it replaced if you want. It might shorten the life of your components but I don't know if it is dangerous at those levels. :)

Thanks :)
I'll wait and see if it causes any more problems first. Maybe (hopefully!) it was just a once-off. Returning things is a lot of faff afterall.
