I need an amp to drive some speakers. I've looked at AV amps but these all tend to be 5 channel with RCA connection for an active subwoofer. They all also have DTS/DD decoding and tuners etc. I don't need any of that. What I want is a 6 channel amplifier with analog inputs for each channel.
I have no ideas.

I've had a look on Richer Sounds but to get 6 channels seems quite expensive, do you have a budget in mind?

Around the £100 to £150 mark. I have some Creative Gigaworks S750s which I've been very happy with for years, however they just went "thud" a few days ago.
My friend has had a look at repairing the amp but it looks like many components all died at once.
I want to drive the existing satellites and modify the sub to be a passive device driven by a simple 6 channel amplifier.

I'm wondering if what I want actually exists and should I just go and buy some Z5500s instead.

I think you may struggle on that budget. The Z5500 route would be good as it's a fantastic package.

Did try to post a link to a 'Slimline 5.1 AV Amplifier' with analogue inputs and passive sub option for just under £80.

Must be technically a competitor link as it got ****ed out.

High street retailer of electronic bits and pieces. Sounds a bit like mapping...

Think it sounds like more hassle than it's worth just to drive the existing S750 satellites, Z-5500 is probably the best you can get for the price.

Go second hand, you really do get more bang for your buck. I recently did the same thing and got an excellent deal on an AVR and some amazing speakers for £60.50, when new retailed at more than x10 that! I know you're not looking for an AVR but with audio equipment at your budget second hand really is the way to go, you just have to be patient and wait for a great deal to come along.

I think I'll spend out on the Z5500s. They're about £275 but for a complete new system, I'm happy to pay that. The Gigaworks were twice that when I bought them IIRC.
I was just looking for a cheap way to get the S750s up and running again.

I'll take a look around the usual places for a decent AVR + speakers before I order the Z5500s

Logitech Z-5500 new for £193.98 if you shop around ;).. I went threw same headache as you and in end purchased the Logitech Z-5500 's never looked back very happy with them. :)

Were you running the gigaworks at level 6-7 constantly?

It says in the manual that would shorten their lifespan. I paid £235 for mine in 2005 and they're still sounding great for movies or music.

The Z5500s are not as good as the gigaworks particularly for music.
