Hi all,

I've been hankering on upgrading my i7 2600k to either 6700k or 5820k (X99). It all comes down to 'the itch' rather than actually needing to upgrade, as at 4.4Ghz the SB is working perfectly. I just feel I'm missing out on some of the later features of newer boards (USB-C, USB 3.1 etc).

Because I occasionally do some video editing and encoding, I like the idea of additional cores, so had virtually made the decision to go 5820k with a mild OC. However, I was wondering if anyone knows if Intel plan to release a 6 core version of the 6700k in the near (2016) future.

Thanks.

The next update to the skylake socket 1151 will be kabylake. Another 4 core 8 thread cpu, similair to what devils canyon was to first gen haswell on Z8/97. Nothing so far though to suggest that we will see hex core chips on the mainstream platform.

Are there any rough timescales for Kaby lake? Or Z270 motherboards if they come slightly before?

Looking to upgrade but seems sensible to wait for cannonlake compatibility.
