Just heard from Wex telling me my XT1 has 6 cosmetic marks on the sensor (which show up at F4) which I am totally shocked and surprised to hear about. I've only had it, the camera a few months and Wex are telling me it will not be covered by way of warrenty (because they have classed it as cosmetic). They are sending it off to Fuji :(

What are the marks, oil, scratches?
Why are they sending it off to Fuji?

Oil spots are fairly common, and not too hard to clean off. Nikon had a problem with oil spots in the D600. I believe that was covered by warranty.

If it is dirt the sensor just needs cleaning, that might mean cosmetic but no need to send it to Fiji.

If the sensor is actually scratched then you will probably need to buy a new camera.

He even said in my phone conversation it might be nothing or something insignificant so I don't understand his reasoning to send it straight to Fuji? How the sensor could be scratched is also beyond me as I treated the camera better than I would treat my own kids?

Surely they asked for your permission to send it to Fuji before they did so? After all, if it is not a warranty repair so will cost you money. Did you give them permission? If not kick up a fuss.

I agreed for them to send it but only on the grounds I was prepared to trust the opinion of Fuji above that of anybody else. In other words I am hoping to hear from them regarding their opinion (which would be free). If they confirm the camera requires a major repair (as opposed to a clean) I'll just ask for it to be sent back to me and consider my options (if any?) To be honest I don't have a single image taken with that camera (right up to the date I sent it in) that indicates a problem of any kind and there is still nine or ten months warranty on it?
