for some reason it only shows 6g for use, it says that windows 10 is using the other 6g to run.
any ideas guys,

thanks

That sounds perfectly normal and fine. The figure you're getting in (I assume) Task Manager is the amount currently in use by everything.

For instance, Task Manager is telling me that on my 32 GB PC I am using 13.6 GB and have 18.1 GB available, with 18.8 GB committed and 15.5 GB cached.

12 GB should in practice be plenty for most applications. Windows will relinquish ram it is using if and when a program demands more.

If you want to put more in it depends on what board he has, 12GB sound like a three slot triple setup. Check the maximum size in the manual or online for that motherboard. Check if it is DDR2, DDR3 or DDR4 and what frequency he is running for the ram.

I would still check task manager to make sure nothing is hogging ram, im using 16gb but only 2.7gb is in use atm while im browsing.

I use Chrome, which is notorious for making use of available RAM and have 40+ tabs open. Because I have so much RAM, Windows is likely also caching C&C3 and BL2.
