Hi , i have a year old THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER 750W PSU that has the 8 pin and 6 pin leads , and i have just brought a GTX 260 graphics card that require 2 6 pin , i've rigged it up with the dedicated 6 pin and the adaptor supplied with the card all working ok.
The thing is in the set up paphlet it states that it is not advisable to use the adaptors even though one is supplied , so were do i stand ie are the adaptors man enough to power the cards under load.

You can use the adapters fine, they wouldn't come with the cards otherwise imo, and ive never had any probs using them. :)

Btw, does your 8x Pin not allow 2x pins to be detatched from it, so it can become another 6x Pin like some do.

On the toughpower psu's theres a single 6 pin pcie cable and an 8 pin cable, the adaptor connects onto the 8 pin cable and steps down to a six pin connector, i actually prefer the 6 + 2 detachable pin setup though.

i didn't realise there's an adaptor must go venture to the loft to find the box , NOW i have a major problem installed the latest drivers and have tried different ones also , and i have no sound through my sound card a X-Fi Prelude , unistalled the nvidia drivers ran driver sweep and low and behold sound , it seems that the graphics card is trying to produce sound as i'm getting popping sounds through my head phones , seems a few people on the net have suffered this but no sollution as come forward.

Do you not have to select your sound device under control panel, hardware and sound?

Whenever I update drivers my system defaults to HDMI audio output via my graphics card, and I have to re-select my sound card.

No joy uninstalled all sound drivers and i'm getting major poping noises through my speakers , for some reason the graphics card wants to output sound , there isn't any options to turn of sound via the nvidia or control panel , well peeing me off

Seemed to solved the problem , had my sound card hooked up to my onkyo amp , which the graphics card didn't like , soon as i pluged my headphones straight into the soundcard all ok
