6 Pin PCI-E Power question

Hi,
Just a quick question, also hopefully quite easy for someone to answer:
I just bought a GTX 470 from OCUK the other day, turns out my old clanky power supply only has 1 PCI 6pin Power connector (The GTX470 requires 2), So I'm off out tonight to grab another.
My Question Is, If I have to fill 2 6pin PCI-E power molex sockets on the Gfx card, Can I substitute one for a 6+2 pin ?
Diluted even more my question is, Are 6Pin PCI-E and 6+2Pin PCI-E Power connectors interchangeable?

I have my eye on a OCZ ModXStream 500 or 600w powersupply, and they come with 1x 6pin PCI-E and 1x 6+2pin PCI-E

Thanks in Advance

Chris

OR, you can buy a molex to PCI-E 6pin converter for around £2, and then use that. I use it for mine (my PSU came with no PCI power) :(

It works great.

They're on the bay, or i think they sell em here as well :)

Ok Thanks for the info.
I'll probably still look at getting a new powersupply but I won't worry too much about 6 and 6+2.
I don't do waiting well If I were to order some of the converters :D.
Also The PS im using now is a not particularly good one I got from an overpriced highstreet store once in a rush as my PS had broken and needed something fast. I only intended to use this thing for a month or so and ended up using it for a year and a half lol.

a new supply would have 1/2/3/4 pairs of 6 & 6+2 connectors depending on whether its "qualified/rated" for single/dual/tri/quad cards.

You can normally put a 6 pin into a 8 pin pci-e connection and the card will work just fine, but on some ATI cards, it means they disable overclocking ability (even though it will still overclock just fine using something like MSI Afterburner).

Thanks for the info, never knew that before.
