I've got a 6-year-old PC with the following specs and was wondering what my options are for upgrading the GPU (1080p only) before the system is being held back by the CPU. No real brand preference so would a RX 5600 XT or 2060 work ok in this system and would it be worth it?

Intel i7 4770K Quad Core
Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Vapor-X OC 3072MB GDDR5
MSI Z87-G45-GAMING Mobo
16GB DDR3 2400 RAM
500GB Samsung 850 SSD
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply

Generally, the PC still performs very well and I only use for light gaming, so not really looking to upgrade the whole system at this time.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance ;)

Your system still has room to breath, something like a RX580 or 1660 would be a pretty big jump from that old 280X (HD7970 refresh I believe).

Either of these would be a good fit:

Honestly your rig would be fine with something like a 2060 or 5700 (both can be had for around £300 on the OCUK website), but given you're playing at 1080P and only do light gaming they're probably overkill given the price jump.

@Gray2233 Great response, thanks very much :D

Looking those bench results, the 1660 super is the better performer, but pricewise it makes it a bit more difficult.

I've personally used an RX580 in a 3770K based system, it was even an upgrade from a R9 280 so a very similar situation as your own. It was a noticeable improvement and I was very happy with the experience it gave at 1080P, even playing heavier games like The Division 2. Were I you I'd opt for the RX580 and consider doing a full system upgrade in a year or two when/if you feel the need.

I wouldn't say the 5500XT is worth it at that price bracket personally, it's barely any better than the RX580 given the price jump. If you actually look at the numbers in the link you gave it's a couple of FPS improvement for £50 more. You can also get the vanilla 1660 (as in, non Super) for the same price and it's a little faster.

I would go for either the RX580 or pay the extra for the 1660 Super.

@Gray2233 Yeah your correct after reviewing that I agree and for £150 that Asus card that you linked originally seems really cheap / good value compared to the other RX580 cards. Any reason for this or is it just a good deal?

It just looks like a good deal OCUK have going at the moment, you tend to see the RX580's cycle in price as to which is the cheapest, it probably depends on what they can get stock of.
