6 year old tyres...time to change them ?

I threw away the fronts on the Elise in Janurary as they were 5 years old (still had just over 2mm tread left)

I wouldn't call that throwing them away. Whilst 1.6mm is the legal limit you should really look at changing them at 3mm.

Now the ones on our Polo with 5mm left that I changed last week, that really did feel like throwing money away! Again though it was age related and they had feint cracks on the sidewalls and more concerning cracks between the tread blocks so they had to go.

Turbo is the way forward though, more power from smaller engines. What with the fuel prices and the incentives to cut emmisions it wouldn't surprise me if N/A cars became a niche market in the future.

Thats the wrong way round?? Honda VTec was produced for better mpg. Good mpg for normal driving, then turbo mpg when your driving hard (VTEC).

I have an Integra TypeR DC2 (1.8) and it's miles better on fuel than the Impreza Turbo of same period. BTW Quite fancy an S2000 at some point
