Disconnect from a depressing and sometimes narcissistic social media, very interesting take on this, not sure i can disagree with him.

I have a smart phone, but on pay as you go, and I pretty much only use data on wifi.
IMO this is the way forward. It's cheaper in terms of handset and monthly cost (~£1/mo). It avoids loads of wasted time. But it still means you can do things which require an app to get done.

Just seen his rant about Star Trek Discovery's supposed retcon of the Borg, think he's still pretty switched on.

So basically, he doesn't own a smartphone anymore because he is a sensitive little frozen H2O group of molecules. He can't use it without showing signs of addiction, he can't handle people posting nice things on social media and "people on the left" being cringy on political subjects. Therefore, he chooses the Luddite approach, because that has a good historical record. "Take that, libruls!"

I have another idea, which may sound crazy but here goes. What if you try to be a fully functional adult and decide to cut down on the habits that harm you, without giving up the useful parts? How about holding your chin up high whilst walking, and the phone in your pocket? How about doing your own thing and not worrying about who is posting what? How about reading some books and discovering (in example) that complaints about narcissism, addiction, and all that rubbish were complaints when the printing press, the radio or the television started being used extensively?

Instead of doing that, he uploads this rant on a SOCIAL MEDIA platform, where it is VALIDATED by, you guessed it, an ECHO CHAMBER of followers.

It boggles my mind how clueless some people can be but I'm not complaining about it at all. It's a never-ending source of involuntary humour, keep up the good work! ;)

There is a special circle in hell reserved for people who use cartoon avatars of themselves as their online avatar.

Does anyone think there is such a thing as WhatsApp burnout? I love the app but my God sometimes it drives me mad, restored a backup the other day - ~450,000 ******* messages! You turn your back for 2 minutes and there could be 50 more messages.

You obviously have more/tedious friends than me! :D
I've set back up as never.

I don't post much on fb
I don't go On fb much
I don't use Instagram
I don't use snap
I check news once or twice a week

I do have a smart phone with data
I don't want to get rid of it

How do I cope?
-Seems like I use it for things/groups I'm interested in, don't binge and don't have friends who bore/irritate me.
I use it to Meet new people etc

It isn't some evil spawn of Satan. It's a tool that can be utilised or Abused

Also, there's a clever feature of a power button or aeroplane mode mode if you want to go.off grid for a Bit. I know it's not in the specs so it's not obvious :p

Username checks out.

It's only depressing/narcissistic if you allow it to be. There will be two kinds of people on this boat, the type that genuinely have depression issues, and should seek genuine help, and those who always moan about the state of social media. Usually those complaints are always posted on a social media platform, such as a forum :p

Choose your friends lists wisely and there's rarely ever an issue.

I am fairly techy but have definitely skipped quite a few social media platforms and am entering that grump old man phase. Don't get me wrong, WhatsApp is great for communicating but it feels like an assault sometimes :p.

I have Insta but barely use it, rant on Facebook (usually about successive UK governments), have made about 5 tweets in my life (my first been a complaint to the wrong company :o:p) and can't be bothered with Snapchat.

There was a bit on breakfast this morning about being able to get away from work when on holiday etc. or even for a weekend. One presenter says well with a phone you are always reachable. No your not, just turn the bliddy thing off now and then.

Some people are very afraid to turn off phones if they’re supplied by their employer, even when on vacation. I found that a clear “I’m on holiday and can’t be reached” OoO message on my work email did the trick for all but the most pushy Yanks. Blocking them for duration of my holiday was 100% effective.

Put your damn phone away, turn it off when you are doing something that needs full attention.

I have all messaging notifications disabled on my phone. If somewhere urgently needs me, they can call. Otherwise I'll read messages when I'm not doing something. Simple.
