Hi all,

I'm looking for a new keyboard that is smaller than my current one. I have a Seitek Eclipse 2 at the moment. Had it for years and I really like it, but just want a bit more room on my desk.

I'm looking for a 60% TenKeyLess keyboard, I REALLY like the look of the K65 and the Ducky Mini, both of which I would have in a heartbeat if I could justify the cost.

I don't need, or even want a mechanical one, I just need one that is around that size and has a backlight (preferably red).

The main reason I don't want a mechanical one is because they are louder than a normal keyboard and as the Mrs works nights and I'm often on the PC when she's trying to sleep in the same room a loud keyboard would cause more arguements than it's worth.

The other reason is the price. I'm happy to spend around £50 on a keyboard, but I can't justify spending over £100 on one.

I'm really struggling to find something suitable, most of the tenkeyless one's I've found are mechanical and very expensive so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions please?

Cheers,

G

You could get a mechanical keyboard with black or red switches and then fit rubber O rings under the keys. Mine has black keyswitches with O rings and if anything, it is quieter than a normal non-mechanical keyboard. :)

The black and red switches don't click, they are linear. The only noise they make is if you bottom them out, which the O rings muffle quite nicely.

Browns are half way between non clicky black switches and clicky blue switches. They are a lot louder than black/reds. I replaced my MX-Brown keyboard with an MX-Black keyboard.

Here, you can see the difference between the three main types in these animations, which should explain the three levels of volume. The red/black switches are linear, the brown/clear switches have a "bump", and the blue/green switches have a very loud "plunger" actuation. http://www.keyboardlover.com/switchanimations.php

That's very helpful thanks dude, I think
I like the idea of reds now, I want it as quiet as possible and as easy to press as possible :)

If it wasn't for the lack of backlight the Zalman K500 would be ideal.
