Hi there,
One of my brother's mates is after a computer he can use for rendering, he mainly uses software such as after effects and is finding his current computer is struggling to render things within the time frame he really needs.

He wants to spend around £600 to £1000 for a computer that will speed up his work, he assures me that after effects makes full use of as many cores as possible.

Thanks for the help.

Adam.

Core i7 it is then. Overclocked 290 D0 ideally.
More ram useful? I'd be inclined to suggest P6T se, 12gb ram, i7 D0. Crap graphics card, 500W ish corsair.

What does rendering actually need? Graphics card help, more ram help?

must use 64 bit OS:D

Max out on CPU and Ram, Rendering is extremely CPU intensive. As stated above, pay as little as possible for the GFX card as it wont be utilised, just make sure it can handle the resolutions he will be working in as well as the possibility of Multi display.

Fast HDD can help also, after the CPU and RAM, get the fastest you can afford.

On the setup above, ditch the GFX card, use his old one and get a second Samsung F1 and Raid them, also get a second set or ram for 12GBtotal. Is he running Vista64?

Also, ditch the case and go for a cheaper alternative

I thought that graphics cards were used for the preview panes in most 3d apps? Ie: the "rough" rendering that you get while modelling?
