Hello All,

A friend is after a multi purpose PC that is "future proof" (as can be), my last build was AMD so I've stuck with that. However, Intel is fine if it'd be better and the same budget (£650).

Any advice appreciated.

Wouldn't really go for 1600MHZ CL11 RAM for the sake of ~10 quid.

Could probably run some low timings with the RAM in the OP, I ran 1600MHZ CL6 RAM before when I had 2000MHZ CL9 RAM.

Yeah, C11 will cause a drop in overall performance vs. C9. Plus 1600MHz will limit overclocking potential via the bus.

edit:

Speaking of overclocking, it'd be a shame to run the CPU at stock, as it has a huge potential. It'd need a cooler though, something around £30 would allow about 4.5GHz - I'd add it to the budget, or upgrade to one later.

For storage green drives are absolutely fine, I have one for Blurays and DVDs. They're a lot slower when it comes to random access, so not great for apps and games.
