Hello!

Long time browser of the forums and heres my first post, been following the hype on BF3 for a while and love the game, but my old Dell XPS 720 isn't quite up-to it, I realised the mistake I made in getting a Dell, so its time I did it properly and built my own, this will be the second time I've built one, first one being some 7 years ago now.

Basically my budget is around ~£600, this may increase depending on a number of factors, but 600 is what I'd like to stick with.

Reading the various BF3 benchmarks and such I've come to the conclusion of putting as much money as possible into the GPU, CPU's don't seem to have much of an impact on performance, so with this in mind and my budget, I currently have this set up:

MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

Total : £578.94

Theres some things i have lying around i can reuse, and also bits out of the XPS like CD Drive, a 500gb HDD (was going to buy a new one but the floods in thailand have stopped me short on that one!) and the OS isnt an issue as ill have windows 7.

The Z68 is one of the cash back motherboards and allows me to put a 2500k if needed at a later date and OC it.

Any Tips/Suggestions are very welcome, thanks for your time!

I'd say re the CPU, either save a bit more and just get the 2100, or spend a bit more and get the i5 2500K, if your budget is flexible this is definitely best bet imo. Other than that looks good, just ensure your old optical drive/HDD are SATA not IDE

Good suggestion, question is, is the difference between 570 and 560ti bigger then a i52500k and i32100 in BF3?

i would imagine from the benchmarks i've seen that a i3 2120 + GTX 570 wouldn't be too far off, if not better than a i5 2500K + GTX 560 TI in BF3 for quite a bit cheaper (BF3 isn't very cpu dependant)

if you're thinking of upgrading to a 2500k anyway just go with the 2100 now and save yourself some pennies

theres no IDE port on that motherboard so be sure your HDD and optical drives are SATA

I'm sorry but where is £113(i2120) + £252(msi 570) = £365

quite a bit cheaper than

£168(i2500k) + asus 560ti top(£194, can sell the games if not wanted for £40-£50) = £362(less if sell the games)

overclock the i2500k to 4.5/4.6ghz and overclock the 560ti to make up any difference in fps you may have to the i2120(can't oc) + 570.

I'd personally rather have the better cpu, will mean you get much better performance in every day tasks etc and not only in 1 partcular game.

there is an option where you can have your cake and eat it(i.e. i2500k+570)

i2500k £168

gigabyte z68ap-d3 £85 you could try email naithwraith in the morning to see if he can do it cheaper has they had it for £74 the other day have a look at http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18340333

msi gtx 570 £252

4gb pc3-128001600mhz c9 xms3 £24

xfx pro 550w £59

£589 cheaper if naithwraith lowers the price of the mb

add the gelid tranquilo at a later date, can still do some overclocking with the sytock cooler to like 4ghz
