I originally planned on spending up to £600 maximum budget on a new road bike and was going to purchase the B'twin alur as it has very good reviews, but then it hit me, what was I going to wear out on the road, my old jeans, baggy t-shirt and some marigolds ermm NO don't think so :D

So a cheaper bike was in order so I bought this

I could have gone cheaper and got the 500SE, but I liked the look of this one more, not sure if it was wise move as not many reviews about, time will tell :p

But now on to my question have I left enough budget to get kitted out, helmet, shorts, top etc, need some budget options that wont fall apart and do the job there intended too, looking around some of this stuff costs more than the bike

Now I haven't ridden a bike in 30 years, but really looking forward to it

Btw what are the essential's I should take with me on a ride, I am a total noob at this :o

One mans long is another mans short :D

I would imagine any ride I do will seem long to me in the beginning, I am going to ride with my son in law and he's already talking about London to Brighton, I haven't even got the bike yet lol, but then he's a young whippersnapper compared to me, but yeah I will be pushing it as far as I am able to.

The 520 looks like a great bike - excellent value for money in terms of kit. Good choice.

Go back to Decathlon for the clothes, I reckon. Bib shorts for £25-45 depending on how fancy they are, jerseys for £20, gloves for £10-20, helmet for £30. I'd also recommend getting pedals that your shoes clip in to, and some proper cycling shoes. It'll take you a touch over budget, but it's worth it once you get used to them.

I got some Giro Trebles for £30 delivered which was an absolute bargain and worth every penny, i got them from ebay.

Also, you can get bib shorts and a jersey in team colours for £25 from certain shops and although they're cheap and Chinese they genuinely are fantastic quality, ive done about 4-500 miles in the bib shorts now and they're so comfortable, better than anything i rode in before them, i dont care for the jersey as i have a Endura jersey that i like :)
