I've finally managed to put some money aside for a new computer and really need to get one as my old is packing up :( I need a computer which can handle some heavy graphics games, play music and DVDs through it, using word, excel etc. I dont need a monitor, mouse or keyboard so that saves some money anyways.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
2GB Memory
Motherboard - Asus maybe?
Harddisk - 100GB min
Graphics card
Case
PSU

If anyone could help spec a PC it would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you get rid of the cooler, you'll be on budget, but you won't be able to get quite as high clocks on the stock cooler - you'll still be able to hit 3GHz or so though.

Thanks for the quick replies! I heard some of the ATI cards were better value/performance for money than the 8800, but I'm guessing you guys dont agree?

I'm hoping that the PC I buy will last me quite some time, so is there anything special coming out/happening which I should wait for before buying maybe? I'm so far behind on computer hardware nowdays, dont have a clue whats good or not and whats on the horizon

PS I dont have a clue about overclocking, so not sure if I'll bother with it :p

There is ALWAYS something on the horizon - if you want it now, buy it now!

At present there is nothing in ATI's product range to compete on price with the 8800gts and offer comparable performance.

As far as overclocking is concerned, with the current Intel processors it is astonishingly simple to get a 50% speed increase, so I would urge you to give it a go once you have your new system all set up.
