£600 budget.

What are the main uses of the PC? It's hard to balance a build if we dont know the uses.

If it's just for gaming i've made my case for the cheaper CPU and much better GPU.

6850 vs 7850 at stock speeds......remember the 7850s overclock well and have double the VRAM ;)

I've been told to get the 3570k by most of the people who replied to the thread.

I was considering getting an i3-2120 and a 7850, but when I spoke to him about it he hated the idea of having a dual-core.

What thread? How can people recommend a spec when they don't know the uses? I still haven't heard what the rig is for, even after asking :/

If he is set on the i5K then this maybe?

I personally prefer the 460 to the 6850/6870. It has CUDA and phys X support. It can use HDAO lighting, AMD can't. Some games can be nvidia biased and nvidia drivers tend to be favoured better than AMDs. I still think he would be better off with a 7850 but it's not my money to spend.

Well put it this way, if he went to PC world with £500 he might just be able to buy a rat powered machine :p
