My friend has given me a budget of £600 to help him decide on a build for gaming. He wants the very best he can get for as close to £600 as possible.

No peripherals, monitor, optical drive or case required.

I've been out the scene for a while, so can you guys help me out? This is what I'm thinking.
Thanks.

change the gfx card for the Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1024MB.

processor/mobo go for the sandbybridge i3 2100 and one of the msi h61 mobo's (around £50).

also, swap the cpu cooler for the Gelid Tranquillo.

is the optical drive SATA, if its ide there aren't any ide connectors on mobo's nowadays.

Shows how much I know lol. Yes the optical drive is SATA no problems there. Cheers.

Do you have any HDDs lying around he could use? That's a mighty whack out of budget and would mean a decent upgrade to i2500k.

No spare HDD's unfortunately :(. It's crazy how prices have shot up lately.

Yeah I mean, i only chose it because its good and the OP chose it too! Perhaps better to have a higher spec one for future upgrades. And if its working less it should be quieter/more efficient (?)

There really isn't any point investing in an after market cooler for the I3. The stock cooler is very quiet and keeps the CPU nice and cool. It's not like you'll be overclocking it. Put the cash towards the GPU.

Actually I agree with that, not sure why I put it in there! That would allow this motherboard instead:

Which would allow for an i5 and overclocking in the future :)
