£600 for new CPU/mobo/ram/case and PSU

As title really got approx £600 for the above. I have am ATI 1950X grpahics card and plenty of HD's , I used to dedicated follower of HD but been out of the loop for a few years. I want it for gaming just got back into I currently have 3.4 p4 D cpu and 2 gig of RAM its a dell one about a year old.

Any suggestions would be good. in fact is it worth upgrading at all?? Or is better to wait any suggestions greatly accepted!!

Whether or not it's worth it is up to you. The spec here will be a heck of a lot faster than what you have. You need to ask yourself if that improvement is worth £600.
 
AMD (IMO) have taken a sabbatical :( Intel C2D is king (at the moment).

How about...



You could probably go for a P35 chipset mobo instead, but considering the features the X38 brings (i.e. PCI-E 2.0, Crossfire, etc) & your budget why not?

You'll need a 64bit OS (XP or Vista) to enjoy the full benefits of 4GB RAM ;)
 
Has anyone else got any other suggestions?? I'm thinking the quad core cpu is the way forward. I've got a 1950 xt which I have just bought is this going to be ok with a quad core set up??
 
You will get a big performance gain when buying this, definatly worth the money! 1950 XT with quad core is fine as far as I know. If you find your gaming is to slow then I'd upgrade to a 8800 GT later.
If you don't think you need QUAD core then I'd suggest you get a E2180 and overclock that to 3.0 / 3.2Ghz and grab a 8800 GT together with it and sell the 1950 XT ;)
 
Mmmm what sort of performence difference is there between the 2 chips is the quad core just a overly expensive gimmick or is it actually worth the extra ??

Anyone doing video editing/encoding will scoff at that statement :eek: Basically all-round its the top chip & upcoming games (e.g. Crysis) take full advantage of the multi-core. The future is 3 or more cores!
 
Quick question I think i'm going down quad core route , just a quick few questions whst the main differnces between

I'm not going to get 2 graphics card , however I do want to over clock.

Also would I be able to get away with 420 watt cosair or would the 520 watt be a sfer bet??
