Hi folks,

after your help with my lads PC just after xmas, my work colleague has asked if we can do the same for his young one, but on a tighter budget, and his kid is only 10 so we arent looking at mega specs and super high definition blood spatters

i've looked on the components section and got this lot, can anyone improve it and stay under budget please:

Hi ROV,

The budget will easily fit a decent discrete GPU for better performance, so no need to stick to a Kaveri APU.

There are many ways to go about this but here is an option that is slightly biased towards upgradability:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 270 TurboDUO 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £125.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £69.95
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £59.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £49.99
1 x Zalman Z3-Plus Midi-Tower - Black £39.95
1 x Deepcool GAMMAXX S40 CPU-Cooler - 120mm £19.99
1 x LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £600.42 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You have your 550W Gold PSU, to allow for better GPU upgrades.

You have your Z97 motherboard to allow for anything up to an i7-K, and is able to allow overclocking the Pentium-K (which is about on a par* with the CPU side of the Kaveri, before overclocking). Now, you could go AMD FX instead, but that will restrict CPU upgrades, and some games are very demanding CPU-wise.

* The Kaveri has 4 cores but the Pentium's dual cores are stronger.

Swapped case for a newer model that brings 4 fans, including a blue led one at the front.

I don't think you're forgetting anything except possibly speakers/headset which haven't been mentioned? And I agree with kicking off with a 256GB SSD, as extra storage can be added later if needed.
