Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a new laptop but wouldnlike to avoid the Dell outlet since I would really want a new one. I saw an Asus N53SV in a shop nearby for 599.

Is it good? Also. I was thinking on buying a XPS, but I don't really mind the powerful sound. I'd rather have a similar laptop with a higher resolution screen without the good sound. Any suggestion? The thing is, to have a a full hd in the xps The laptop would cost me 700+.

Bascially what I want is 2nd gen i5 or more, dedicated graphics, USB 3.0 and if possible, high res.

Thanks!

For £600, on a first glance your budget seems to low as the specs your require a deep.

What would you be using the laptop for?

Gaming? is a 2nd Gen i5 really necessary? maybe an i3 2nd Gen?

Dedicated graphics? Would you need a top end notebook GPU? or would you settle for something low, maybe a 6770m or something (i think there is one called that anyway )

I just bought a new Dell Vostro 3550 from the bay i5,4GB,1GB 6630M, 500GB, USB 3, finger print reader but 1366 screen, for £ 500

I wouldn`t be using necessarily for gaming. The only game which I might want to play is FIFA.

The Asus one I mentioned has my wanted characteristics, I just dont know if it would be reliable.

Is the difference between a 2nd gen i5 and i3 very big?

Also, I`d prefer not to buy it on e-bay. I know its many requirements, but any suggestions help.

Thanks.

Dell outlet certified refurbished are completely indistinguishable from new laptops. Well mine is and everyone else has said that theirs are too.

ASUS is a good make and u get a 2 year warranty. If you like the security of buying it from a real shop, 599 seems good if you can live with the screen res. hy not take a dvd to the shop and try it ? For gaming the lower res will probably help your frame rates anyway.

Is there any way of getting a full HD for a reasonable price?

Also, do you think it would be possible to run FIFA smoothly on high res with the asus?

Thanks.

Either Dell outlet, the bay, an older gen processor or up the budget !

I reckon fifa would be fine at the best res that asus can do

An older gen or a 2nd gen i3 would be much worse?

What would be my options in these cases? (if possible, with a hd res)

Thanks!

a quick look finds a sony i5 £ 697 , I am sure if you looked u would find something giving u 1080 and it would run very well

google for this....

Sony VPCEB4X0E/BQ VAIO 15.5" Notebook (Intel Core i5-480M Processor,2.66GHz,4GB RAM,500GB HDD,Blu-ray & DVD SuperMulti,Windows 7 Home Premium)Black

or this at about £ 640

Sony VAIO VPC-EB4X0E/BQ Newlaptop

:)

Both of these vaios seem to be what I'm looking for. However, what does this mean:

Video RAM memory (MB): 512
Total Graphics Memory: Approx. 2231MB

What is the allocated video memory? Also, is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics good enough for games like FIFA on high res?

Still, the ASUS one I described still has 2nd gen i5 and usb 3.0. Will I lose much by not buying a 2nd gen intel processor? Also, is it possible to buy usb3.0 adaptors in any way? (I know this might possibly sound as a stupid question...)

Thanks.

Stretch to £675 and by the 17.3" 1080p i5 version of the Asus N series you have seen.
The 15" version is similar specced with the blue ray combo drive, it just has a lower screen res and 4gb as opposed to 6gb of Ram.
They both have the GT540m graphic chip in them.

Also, are these usb3.0 express card adaptors any good? Cause if they are I don't mind buying a laptop without it.

I am having a hard time trying to find a good asus reseller. Can anyone recommend me one? It would be even better if it were a physical shop, rather than online.

Thanks!
