Can anyone help spec me a Sandybridge system built for gaming?

I have spare already...

V1000 Lian Li BTX case. (will replace if necceary)
GTX285
600W S12 Seasonic PSU
OS

Will need...

Mobo, CPU, 4gb-8gb mem and cooler. (would like a D-14 Noctua, but unsure if will fit in that case.)

The system would replace my 755 kit, which I already have a home for.

Any help is muchly appreciated. :)

isnt BTX smaller than ITX, or is just the name of the case, sorry made an assumption without looking at the actual case. :o

Ahh, The PSU has barely been used but was bought about 3-4 years ago and is still very quiet and reliable.

I'm happy to keep the PSU, if it's suitable for the new cmponents.

Thanks all !!

And cheers for the spec Stulid.
If I overclock, will I be limited in overclocking with 8gb of memory, as opposed to 4gb ?

No.

The BIOS gives you selection of speeds to pick from 4.2-4.8GHZ where it does all the hard work itself.

Even overcloking these chips yourself is stupidly simple, its just a case of setting the multiplier to 45X and you have an instant 4.5GHZ, dont have to fiddle with anything else.

That's awesome, I was just worried because it says on ocuk bundles, adding more memory invalidates the chance of the OC. (or something like that)

So if you stick to just 2 slots, there is no more strain on the memory controller ?

My only concern now is that the D-14 Cooler may not fit in my Lian Li Case.

I can confirm the case takes D-12. And you have specced me with low profile memory, (excellent!) which I know is a necessity for that cooler.

So, with the remaining budget can I get an SSD that would be only used for Steam Games storage. I have an 80gb Intel X2, but its just not enough and I'm after double the capacity.

I thought I'd be good to go Raid striped with two of them as part of the upgrade.. but would you buy a last gen SSD drive now ?

That RAM is currently on offer for today, if the price goes back up/or stock runs out(11 left) then Corsair XMS3 is the next in line.

It's just handed different, the motherboard sits on the left hand side of the case and a different way up :)

Latest version of your case.

That case is ATX with the motherboard fitted on the opposite side from "normal" in an upside down orientation with the I/O at the bottom and the expansion slots at the top.

BTX is similar but the I/O would be at the top and the expansion slots at the bottom.

An ATX board doesn't fit in a BTX case and vice versa.

I assume you're working on the basis that OP doesn't actually have a BTX case but has the upside down ATX case.

It's a Lian Li V1000b case, the first version and not the revised Plus,

My cards are mounted on the right at the top with the PSU at the bottom Right, divided into two sections.

I will measure the distance from mobo to side panel, all I know right now is that a D-12 fits and has not much to spare, perhaps 20mm at the most.

That sounds like upside down ATX then, not BTX.

If remember correctly, a few years ago some people used go class this design BTX, even though it wasn't, but mainly due to the orientation of the board.

I was looking at getting the V1000 a few years back, far as I am aware there wasn't a default BTX version, but you never know :)
