Hey all,

I am looking to build a Sandy Bridge system for £600 in a mini case/htpc size. Going to be using it for gaming (not hardcore) and the usual business, internet media etc. No overclocking.

Looking for a spec to include:
Core i5-2500k
Motherboard
Ram - 4GB
Harddrive ~ 1tb
Wireless card
Graphics card with DVI and HDMI output

I will be running Windows 7 Professional x64

I've got an ATI 4850 which I could use, can this be used with a DVI-HDMI cable to output to 32" LCD tv and provide audio?

Thanks

Jack

You are aware that the K sandybridge variant is for overclocking, the non-K isn't. Also elaborate more on what you mean by a "mini" case, what form factor?

Hi,

Is the budget including the case or do you already have it?

As far as i know a DVI-HDMI cable won't carry sound with it as the DVI port won't output sound.

If your not overclocking then a "K" chip isn't necessary, although it is currently cheaper (OEM version) than its none K couterpart so it wouldn't hurt.

Do you have a PSU in your current rig that your planning on using on this one?

£20 over because of shipping. The 5850 will give you a HDMI output as well as playing games at a decent level. Cooler is made for small enclosures like the Lian Li Cube case.

Hi,

Yep, you are right on this one. I recently switched from a hdmi cable to a dvi-hdmi as my hdmi cable became faulty and I can no longer use the speakers on my screen without connecting a separate cable

Reasons for owning a P67 board are down to overclocking, neither of the H67 or H61 board can do this. (you need a "K" CPU for this as well)
H67 is basically for people who don't want to overclock (their CPU) and has the benefit of having onboard graphics, USB 3.0 and Sata 6Gb/s ports.
H61 is basically a H67 without USB 3.0 and Sata 6Gb/s ports.

Keep in mind which ever mobo us choose needs to be mATX form factor. Otherwise you'll need a tower case rather than a small one.
