£600 upgrade spec?

Ryzen 3600 has 6 cores/12 threads better for coming games for less.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3b9-am.html
I mean next-gen consoles will bring 8 cores/16 threads as base level with pretty much underclocked for energy variant of 3700X.

MSI B450 Tomahawk could handle upgrade to 12 cores decently when having some case cooling.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-b450-tomahawk-max-socket-am4-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-33t-ms.html

That memory would be slow also for Intel CPUs.
3200MHz is current standard level.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/patr...dual-channel-kit-pvs432g320c6k-my-106-pa.html
This would be very good overclocker
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cruc...b-kit-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3200-udimm-my-20d-cr.html
Anyway for staying in just six cores 32GB is overkill compared to CPUs.

Besides being overpriced for the budget approaching half the price of CPU, waterpipes in place of heatpipes don't make heat disappear anywhere.
And those fashionable small and slim radiators don't have excessive of surface area for dissipating heat into air.
Hence once water's heat capacity gets saturated in continuous load, cooling per noise starts struggling against high end heatpipe coolers.

Scythe Mugen 5 would be good for 12/16 cores.
Though only PCGH and RGB bling bling versions are now is stock.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/scyt...-cpu-cooler-with-pwm-fan-120mm-hs-04c-sy.html
For just 8 core Ryzens even cheaper coolers would be good.

An i5? Seriously.
Why buy hardware for games of the future when you can buy brand for yesterdays games?

The cpu you have chosen is unlocked but b360 dont support overclocking.

for a tenner more you could get this

Thanks for all the replies... I've not upgraded my rig in about 8years hence my current 2500k. So this is just the kind of reply I was hoping for...

so AMD would be a better option...
I noticed the Ryzen-7 2700X is in the same price bracket with 8cores and higher clock speed, would this be a better option?
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3ac-am.html

Thanks :)

EDIT: Just done a CPU comparison... not sure if I can post from the benchmark site? Anyway It appears the newer Ryzen 5 is better regardless.

A 3700x is better if you want it to last 5 years + that said there is nothing wrong with going with a 3600 now especially if the budget is tight and then dropping in a cheap 8-12 core in a year or two.

Zen2 has such improvement over Zen+ that in gaming 3600 beats 2700X.
And when those extra two cores would make difference, 2700X would be anyway just mid level CPU because of old (2018) architecture.
AMD has actually improved, and not just rebranded like Intels, Zen3 coming for current AM4 platform alter this year.

I think I will go for the 3700X, but I'm now debating waiting for the B550 boards in the hope that there is a slightly more budget friendly SLI board.
It would be nice to add another 1070ti when their prices get to ~£150

I'm also in the mind that, you could always wait for the next release of new tech and never actually buy anything.

I wouldn't bother building your rig around potentially using SLI in the future, multi-gpu doesn't have the support it used to have and 95% of the time you're better off with a strong single GPU. You would be better off selling your 1070ti later this year and upgrading to the new Nvidia or AMD cards.

Is there any advantage to having both AMD cpu and gpu? guessing not but thought id ask.

id get about £200 for the 1070ti now wondering is it worth adding the £100 for something better with AMD.
Im so out of touch with hardware i’ll go have a look now.

noted: I won’t bother with SLi

There's no real advantage in pairing AMD CPU's and GPU's, your money generally goes a bit further with an AMD GPU but the same stands true for people running Intel rigs.

Honestly I'd keep the 1070ti for now, it's still a decent card and you're not going to see much of an improvement over it from a current £300 card.

3600=Best budget bang for your buck
3700=Good for those wanting a powerful system for a few years
3900=Monster performance for a long time.
3950x= ******* crazy / performance spare for nearly anything.

Threadripper = Godzilla

OK, so like most things you set a budget and it goes up a little :p
How does this look?
Should last me 5+ years right?

The only issue is PCI Express v4. THe X570 motherboards support it; the B450 boards do not. B550 boards - which do support PCIe v4 - should have been released months ago. PCIe v3 has more than enough bandwidth for current GPUs but may fall short for the next generation, so be prepared to spend another £100 or so on a B550 or 650 motherboard sometime.

I think this is what I'm going to go for...

-having read comparisons the 3800X isnt worth it so sticking with the 3700X (saves some money)
-the Asus board will also be really usefull having the wifi & bluetooth for me so worth to extra pennies.
- the offer ended on the m.2 drive so ill look at some alternative storage soon. I have an 500gb SSD for my OS anyway. the M.2 was going to be games and apps. - or the other way round not decided.ha.

Thanks

Do not go for that motherboard, if you want built in wi-fi get the MSI Pro Carbon:

It's a fiver cheaper and is a much better board, the Asus one you're looking at has poor VRM's. The Strix B450-E also lacks bios flashback, meaning you can't update the bios without the CPU if necessary, there's no guarantee it'll work out of the box with Ryzen 3000 chips.

@Gray2233

Strix E actually has 12 phases via 6 doublers or 12 phases twinned together to make 6. cant remember which method used as higher end ASUS use twinning/Parallel set up. Actually better then B450 MSI boards but still B450 ITX has the best best up and cheaper then MSI/ASUS ATX Wifi :)

Strix F is useless ! E was hard to get until now
