Here's one for the VFM experts out there. A friend of mine is looking for a Windows PC with WiFi for home use.

She says:

I want to do word docs, emailing and internet, absolutely not fussed about games and films, want to be able to store my photos and my family tree and it has to be wi fi.

So, not a particularly arduous requirement for the machine. She has identified a 23" All-In-One device with the following spec:

I was thinking she would be futureproofed to a greater extent with putting together a Z68 / 2500K system. Using Intel HD graphics should be OK for her application, but allowing for upgrade, overclocking, graphics card etc later on. I'll be busting the budget!! ;)

I've looked at some of the OCUK systems and the "Primo 6100i" Intel Core i3 550 3.20GHz DDR3 System with a 1Tb HDD upgrade and a nice monitor/wireless KB and Mouse will come in on budget and fit the bill (need to check WiFi).

Primo 6100i

Your thoughts and suggestions most welcome!! :D

Thanks!

I would redirect any friends looking for a similar spec to visit a certain major manufacturer who until recently, only dealt direct with the end user. Pretty much any bargain basement PC will suffice and likely be significantly better than anything they currently have.

It's not worth your time or theirs building a Pc for them and it sounds like an absolutely massive waste of an i5 2500k!

If I were them, I'd rather have a PC for £399 and £200 in my pocket than something that MIGHT be upgraded in the future.

ETA, I might steer them away from all-in-ones though unless they have a specific need for it.

Thanks very much Stu/IPA. I could get a wireless adapter to complete the spec and within budget as well.

I'll feed this back and see what she says!

Cheers!
