600w - is it enough?

Proposed build is a 3570k, 7950, 8gb ram, 1 optical drive, 1 ssd and 1 hdd.

Seen a great deal for a CM 600w gold modular PSU but will 600w be enough?

Yes, plenty

You'll be pulling around 350W overclocked. That PSU has 48A@12V (CM Silent Pro Gold 600?), so really, it's got loads of power to deal with that setup.

I don't really understand amps. Maybe I should've paid more attention in physics!

OK I've given myself a quick physics lesson and discovered that W = Amps * Volts!

I'm guessing the 48 amps is pretty good due to it being a gold efficiency PSU?

Yes, that's 576 watts You'd need, say, over 36A to be relatively comfortable with your rig, so you have some margin. 550W is the sweet spot for a 7950 + SB / Ivy CPU.
