Just put an order in for a Radeon 4870 - will my Seasonic 600w cope, or will I need to put something beefier in? :)

wouldn't 600W be enough for crossfire as there were rhumers from ATi that the new 4000's can crossfire on a decent 400W PSU

4870s in crossfire are quite power hungry.

It's not about the Watts is all about the 12V rail.. and available amps. I blew a 500W with a 2900xt, nothing much else in there, all onboard with a cdrom and hdd. Now I've an Oz600W running crossfire 3870's with x3 hdds and dvdrom, + XFI-Gamer s/c. 3ghz wolfdale @ 4ghz. :)

That's still not that power hungry. Those figures are at the mains, so if the psu is roughly 85% efficient then the entire system is actually only drawing around 360W.

So a 600w should be fine depending on the amperage ratings

His PSU is ok its a Seasonic.

Soz for partial threadjack, but are there any DECENT online power calcs these days? All the ones I know of are out of date, so are no use for me to check if my 485W Enermax will handle a 4870 with a skt939 setup and 5 HDDs...
