Hey guys,

My 4890 is running 60c idle.....would you consider this to be safe? ive not seen what it goes up to when gaming, but a rough guess id say at least 80-85c maybe more?

Thats stock 4890 clocks aswell...

I know about the fan speed thing, however i leave it to auto because if i raise it anymore it sounds like a helicopter taking off lol.

I was thinking about replacing the cooler,But still ive not seen a cooler that is 100% guaranteed to fit the 4890....most people have said that if it fits the 4870 then it will fir the 4890,Then someone else said you might have to modify the VRM heatsink by taking some off the corner to fit some coolers

ahh well thats good then,I might setup my other monitor and watch the temps on that while i game...too see what they do go up too...i doubt it will reach 110 though *fingers crossed* anyway lol.

i remember my 8800GT ran 33c idle...damn what a diffrence lol.

right i have some MX-2 thermal paste lying around so i thought i might take off the cooler, clean it up free of dust...replace the gunk they put on and hopefully that will give me lower temps,But....on closer inspection i see that the ram chips have Thermal pads on them....i do not have any new ones of these, and i take it i cant use thermal paste on them lol.

What me do?

Ive not took the heatsink off yet,so its okay.

mine is pretty similar to the guy at the top i get 54c on auto at idle. load i've had max 79c(furmark).

don't bother with re-pasting it, i done this and it made no difference to temps. just use compress air and clean it out every now and then.

55C idle here. As above poster, I have tried other coolers before coming back to stock and MX2 didn't make any noticeable difference.

Other coolers made a massive difference, but the reason I came back to stock is because it was a pain keeping the VRMs cool.

Mine idles at 48c though it has one of these dual fan coolers on it:
