Hi all, was thinking about overclocking my i5 3750k, running prime95 I'am currently getting max 60c with my aftermarket cooler, is this cool enough to start overclocking?

Thanks

its a artic freezer 7 pro, just fitted today i think i may have got the orientation wrong i have fan facing gpu, should it be facing ram?

turn it so that the fan faces the memory

check all the black plastic to see that there's no cracks, common problem on that cooler

cracks = less pressure on the cpu = higher temps

cheers, what would be the increase in temp from stock speed to say 4GHz? 10-15c ?

Depends on the voltage and airflow. I reckon you will be hitting 55oc ish, but thats a guess. Just keep checking your temps with core temp, or which ever, whilst running Prime95.

oh dear, well looks like i will invest in a new heatsink soon any recommendations? i have just reseated the heatsink so the fan is facing the ram, and tighted screws a little more, down to 50-54c on 100% load. wish i down some research before buying the freezer pro

Its a lot to do with Ivy's design as well. Thermal paste between the IHS and core, i changed my HTPCs cpu to a 3570K from a 2500K @ 4Ghz 1.2v (used the 2500K in another build for a mate and thought i'd upgrade my own kit :D), same clock on the 3570K @ the same vcore amounts to about 10-15C higher temps. thermalright AX100, so decent cooler. Might delid this one as well, my 3770K dropped about 20C when i did it.
