As title, is this a decent camera with a flip out screen (on the 2nd hand market) or anything else any better? Looking to add a f2.8 24-70mm

my mate has just bought one and as a semi pro camera it really is good.

1) its big and has great hand hold
2) 8000th sec shutter 5 FPS (i think)
3) flip screen is great
4) digital level
5) top LCD (very handy)
6) great buffer
7) 9 af points all cross type
8) some weather sealing (light rain, tested by his daughter spilling a glass of juice on it and its still going!)

need i go on, just be aware 70d is due out soon with some big changes but also a big price tag £1000 (guess)

Body is great but I'd pair it with a second hand 17-55mm f2.8 it's a much better focal length for a walk around on a crop.

Also worth considering (I am) is the 15-85mm - slower lens and potentially a bit less IQ in trade for a wider angle and the additional focal range. (I'm considering both at the moment myself!)

Someone told me about the 650D but reading the reviews seems nearly on par with the 60D, think i'll go with the 60.

not really.

650 does not have -

8000/1
top lcd
weather sealing

it cannot do -

its lager, better hand hold,
better buffer
faster fps

**and more**

although 650 does have digic 5 processor +1 650d lol

Probably one of the best choices for flip out as it's so lightweight and versatile. It's great if you're in a crowd and the subject your shooting is over them, you can just pop the camera up, adjust the viewfinder so you can see what's happening and snap away!

The 70D due for release at the end of August but the initial price of 1000+ body only is to me a couple of hundred over.

Look forward to seeing some reviews as the marketing spiel sounds good :), but it will be very interesting to see real world usage of the "20.2MP APS-C 'Dual Pixel CMOS AF' sensor"

Ah, that is news to me. None of the new abilities are of much use to me I don't think, more than happy with the 60D which I envisage will seem me through a few years before I go full frame.

Actually it has a few improvements that are useful, especially if you are shooting motorsport.

- 7fps as opposed to 5.3fps
- 65 JPEG / 16 RAW buffer rather than 58 JPEG / 16 RAW
- 19 cross type AF points over the 9 of the 60D
- Micro adjustment, no idea why they omitted that on the 60D
- More AF modes for panning, you can switch AF points with a button near the shutter without having to take your eye away from the viewfinder

These are the reasons I've kept with my 550D until the 70D is available. Then again it's double the price, so even though I might be happy to wait it's probably good enough for you.

True, but I upgraded from a 400D, around 3 months or so ago. The jump I have now more than meets my needs until the time comes that I move to full frame. Plus it's also extra money to spend on glass.

I never understand why larger cameras are a positive...? Heavier and bulkier for the 95% of time you're carrying it around. But then again I have large hands and never had any problems holding a 400D and big lenses...

I just wish the higher end cameras were smaller, it would save so much much needed space and weight in my walking/carry on bags! The D7000 I have now is noticeably bigger than the 400D and that to me is one of the biggest negatives of it (and one of the major reasons I didn't go for a 7D).
