Been thinking of having a play with video for a wile now but didn't know where to start so last week went out a purchased a Canon 60D and 50mm f1.4 and got my head stuck into Final Cut Pro (video editing software for Mac) which is bloody hard to use.

This weekend I went on a road trip to do a shoot with Julie Bruville. We shoot my usual image stuff but I told her about my ideas for video work and she was up for me to try some bit & bobs. All where shot in a old Hospital which was wicked in itself.

This is a few hours work editing and please remember I've never done it before and Julie was fab for helping me out. I know its not perfect and things wrong but just wanted to see what people thought as a add on to a models portfolio.

Shot in my mad and wacky way to try and match my photography, also a couple of images from the shoot.

very nice.

in ref to the video, some of the shots look a little soft. although i imagine its hard to get it spot on. I like the colours and light at the 56sec mark.

Really nice dude, great shots as well (although not keen on the 5th one, love the top 4 though). I love the tone and the colours.

She looks like a very fun model to work with as well.

Excellent work, I'm watching it with the sound off (don't even know if it has sound) and it works really well like a slightly unnerving, but intimate nostalgia piece. The small depth of field and the framing makes everything look so close.

Nice work!

How much data did that video take up on the CF cards?

& How much is the 60D? Its the newest Canon is it not?

Thanks guys, also the 60D was about 800ish also had a 7D but just sold it as was no different to the 60D and has the flip out screen.

Now thinking of selling the 60D as I have the new Sony A55 coming which has auto focus ;)

Very nice, the only bit of crit I can give is the change in aspect ratios looking out of place, and a shot which looks copied and pasted but with a different effect.

Sony A55 would be step backwards from 60D. Yes, it has some unusual toys, but in reality - image quality is worse, cont. autofocus struggles, screen flip is all wrong and I'd say you'll be lucky if battery lasts 1/4th that of 60D, let alone with geotagging on.

I've had a go at the 60D at work, pretty nice camera but the tilty screen is off putting to me personally. Still saving up for a 7D :o

nice video though, like the tonal range

One reason only and that's the auto focus, yes the 60D might be slightly better, what I want it for I don't think I'm going to see the difference.

Thought you shot Nikon Willis ? Why no D7000 ?

I do I have a D3 for my stills, but wanted a flip screen and the D7000 is fixed. Had a 7D and chopped in for the 60D and now going to give the A55 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4 as I want to shoot as the lowest aperture possible. As its purely for video work think the Sony might be perfect and its cheaper. :D

I'm based in Torquay, was thinking if a few of you wanted to come down from London way could have a play in my studio and show you some local location spots etc, i'll get a model to tag along so you have something to shoot. ;)

Sounds good to me dude. Feel free to drop us a line with some dates in Jan and Feb? :) - See if we can sort something out hehe. It's location stuff I want to do, but studio stuff I'm never gonna say no to, can bring my lights if you want extras that we can play with if needed.

Email is [email protected]

Cheers,
Jake :)

I played with an A850 before i bought Nikon and i found it amazing, just felt so much more natural in my hand than anythink Canon or Nikon had to offer. But the limited lens' put me off it!
