Guys,

I've came across this video and a couple similar ones on YouTube and would love to gauge some opinions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6igZbQm75s

As someone who generally played only console until the last of years I can see the difference between 30 and 60 (easily). If I'm honest I can't see too much difference between 60 and 120 and nothing at all between 120 and 144.

In the video the YouTuber seems to spot it with relative ease, is this the same for most people? Or is this dependent on a person's eyesight?

Thank you in advance,

Scott.

I've played on a 60hz monitor for ages until I swapped to a 144hz screen a few months ago. I don't think I could go back to a 60hz now, everything is much smoother, heck even the mouse cursor in Windows is a hell of a lot different. I probably couldn't tell the difference between 120hz and 144hz however, nor do I think I could tell if it was a higher than 144hz (though not tried anything higher).

60 to 144 is a massive difference for me, 60 feels as jarring as 30 used to do when I was used to 60!

For me the sweet spot is around 100+ though. So long as there or thereabouts with G Sync I'm happy :)

it's not so much "seeing" the difference as feeling it.

everything is just so much smoother.
especially mouse movement and in fast paced games like 1st person shooters.

the pixels are updating more than 2x as fast compared to a 60Hz screen. you also get reduced motion blur from a high frame rate monitor.

theres not a big difference between 120 and 144. but 60 vs 120/144 is huge.

It seems like the general consensus is once you go 120/144 it's hard going back? Maybe once I see one of these monitors in person it'll feel different. Thank you for the replies guys. :)

Yes once you go higher HZ you will feel smoothness and if you go back to a 60hz monitor you will feel/see lag, Even on desktop.

Always had below 120Hz screens, then Q1 15 got an Eizo FG2421. Initially I wasn't that impressed, if just considering Hz. Pretty soon after using it regularly I start noticing the difference. Roll on a month or so back, got a Dell U2515H as wanted to go 1440P. It seemed a very sensible choice for price, etc. Majority of games I could live with 60Hz but FPS were defo not the same "feel" of fluidity. So purchased an Asus MG279Q and now feels the same as being on the Eizo :) .

So yeah if you have experienced high Hz then going back is something you will notice and may not like.

Some people don't notice the difference. My brother can't tell if he is using 60hz or 144hz, not in gaming or desktop use.

And for others they don't see the difference but can "feel" it. Hard to explain.

Best thing you can do is try one out for a while and see what you think.

Before I upgraded my monitor I honestly thought 60fps @ 60Hz was the pinnacle, but even going from 60Hz to 100Hz the difference was night and day for me, as soon as I booted up my PC I noticed it on the desktop, especially when scrolling web pages, couldn't go back to 60Hz.

You can't see any physical difference between 60hz and above apart from less motion blur the higher your fps goes. What is different is the feeling when aiming. It gets better the higher your hz and fps go. Imagine the difference in feeling of control on shooters between 30 and 60fps and you'll understand, ignoring of course the different look in motion between those 2 framerates as that's not relevant here.

The difference is easily noticeable for me from 120hz to 144hz. If I've tweaked my monitor by mistake I tab out in like 2 secs. 60hz to 144hz is insane next level.

That's awesome, real food for thought - thank you for the replies.

The next challenge for me is to find a 27inch+, 2k/4K, IPS, 120/144hz monitor. :p

I have both a 60Hz and a 144Hz monitor side by side.

For desktop use the difference is noticeable immediately with the 144Hz being an immense amount smoother even just moving windows around, Scrolling down pages etc... compared to the 60Hz monitor.

The games I personally noticed the biggest difference going from 60Hz to 144Hz was Star Wars Battlefront and pretty much any racing game.

Most report that 60 to 100 htz is lovely and highly noticeable and all can't really go back to 60htz after. I've seen these screens but I've kept my distance literally because I have multiple setups and the cost to replace 4 or more already high end 60 htz screens would be epic in cost and typically once I notice something I fixate on it. Good luck.

I can see the difference but i'd rather have a 60Hz IPS/VA over a 144 TN. The worse colours and viewing angles really bother me, far more than the lower refresh rate does.

Went from 60 > 120 and the difference is very noticable both visually and by movement.

Whenever I go over my friends I can always tell when he doesnt use 120hz as it looks a little bit slower. He switched it and was like oh yea its so much different.

Never tried 144hz yet but can imagine that is so good!

For fast-twitch gaming, I'd rather have a 120Hz TN panel.

I, however, play strategy games and use my desktop for work and so resolution and colour are more important. I did have a 120 TN panel but now have a 5K iMac and two IPS/VA 4K monitors for my PC.

Once 100+ monitors come in decent resolutions then sure, its a no brainer.
