ok I've pretty much decided to go for the 6300 on the grounds that with the right mobo I can probably get the to about 3+ Ghz. I mainly play games & I don't do much video encoding so I'm unlikely to need the extra cache of the 6600. Is this sound logic so far? Come on somone persuade me with sound arguments to buy the 6600 (or even the 6400) instead so I can justify it to myself :D

Another question: do I need to concern myself with steppings or are they all good 'uns?

Id go for the 6400 as it has the higher multiplier for an easier OC, and is still quite cheap.

:D

Depends on what Mobo you are getting, if the mobo can hit high FSBs then the E6300 should be fine.

Well I'm gonna start off with the ASRock so I can use my existing ram & then upgrade to a DS3 or something along those lines (no more than £100 ideally) in a month or 2. I'm not fussed about overclocking on the ASRock but I will go for a big clock on the better board.

[edit] I went for the E6400 in the end as a happy medium. Order placed. Job done :D
