the i5 760 is a true quad core, what you had is just a dual core with hyperthreading.

So you know, the i5 you've specced is a dual-core. If you wanted a quad core you would need the i5 760.

Good call by burrell there, the mobo he is referring to is:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-124-MS

That RAM is horrible stuff, so many bad reviews and issues, I'd swap it out for this:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS

Finally, that PSU is overkill and costing you money better spend on the above ;) - I would get this:

cheers for your help, the question is for the motherboard is the GD65 better for with the free 3.0 card and sli or the G55 with only crossfire but has built in usb 3.0 and sata 3. I'm leaning towards the first due to mate wants nvidia because he wants to try 3d sometime later on.

hmm i'll see if he can up the budget by 30ish quid and get the ud4. If he does hopefully (minus gfx card update), this system should be ok for 2+ years for him.
