64 bit windows powerdown problem

Hi, Ive recently installed windows xp prof 64 bit on a new raptor hdd, and I still have my old 32 bit operating system set up on another hdd. so i can go into bios and boot from either operating system.

The problem is that when I shutdown the 64 bit os, after windows has logged out and shut down, theres still power on the motherboard (fans going etc), and I have to hold the front button down for a few seconds to get the PC to finish powering down.

I installed some new 64 bit drivers for my motherboard and this solved the problem for about a day or so, but then it started doing the same thing again, and every time I re-install the 64 bit motherboard drivers it shutsdown ok for a day or so, but then goes back to the same problem. ....(also these are the only 64 bit drivers that seem to be available for my motherboard).

Does anyone know a solution to this kind of powerdown problem? ....or have any idea why the problem keeps returning after the new drivers seem to have fixed it for a while.

Also, will shutting my PC down by holding the front button down after windows seems to have closed fully do any damage to my hdd or operating system (like if you switch PC off without logging out windows etc).

Any help would be appreciated

Interesting... Sounds like your motherboard isn't behaving/adhering to the ACPI standards. I've never had to use motherboard drivers (unless you mean the chipset INFs).

Have you checked that your BIOS is set to use ACPI?

What motherboard is it?

Its a cheap ECS K8M800-M2 motherboard.

The drivers that solved the problem for a day or so were the VIA 4 in 1 drivers for it... 64 bit beta ones. (only 64 bit drivers I could find for it on ECS site). The driver disc that came with the motherboard wont run on 64 bit os.
