May sound weird, but i have the dual retail version of vistal ultimate but have generally just used the 32bit version, tried the 64bit version last week and so far im finding things generally slower, especially startup and general useage, both versions running a q6600 and 4gb ram with 1tb sata, both have been upgraded to sp1, im thinking maybe ive just had a dicky install as ive had it in the past with xp where one isntall on same hardware would be faster than another....

Is it just me?

it could be a start up app, I've found a lot of apps are still 32bit which means they run in 'virtual' mode. Doesn't have an issue most of the time but some programs really are not coded well for this in my opinion.

By 32bit (2.2ghz C2D) work lappy is slower booting compared to my 64bit (3.6ghz C2D) 4gb home machine?

May be because its a laptop though...

Duuno about x86 vista, but in x64 i goto msconfig/boot/advanced options/ and set number of cores for cpu

This can speed initial bootup somewhat

Maybe try this and see if same in vist x86

Ciao

You aint kidding mate, wish I knew about that 6 months ago. Its made booting into Vista a lot faster. I presumed it would know to use all 4 core on loading in, obviously not.
