Hi . is it possible to just buy 2x(2x16gb) dual channel kits and use then in quad channel mode or does it specifically need to be from a quad channel memory kit?

As long as they are from the same series and revision you should be fine. But at this high capacity and quad channel, a proper quad channel kit is a safer choice.

you can buy two lots of dual channel memory to make quad. You need buy the same kits although.
