Hi,

I need a new pc and want to try to build one this time. I need a tower and OS only. I will be using every at stock speed and want this to last a few years.

If possible can you use the Bitfenix Neos Black/Silver case as a base, but I am open to other cases if they are better.

Would prefer an SSD and an I5. I don't need much hard drive space for now and can add more later.

Many thanks

Thanks for the spec, it is similar to what I am looking for. It will be used for general computing and light gaming.

Would it be possible to add an CD drive to the spec and could you spec me one with an SSD.

Thanks guys for all the specs. Quite a lot to think about.

Do you know if this graphics card and SSD are any good?

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX Radeon R9 280 DD Black Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R9-280A-TDFD) with FREE Kingston 60GB SSD £169.99
Total : £179.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Just thinking I could get this, so I can get an R9 280 and a small SSD for OS and some small installs. The rest can then go on another bigger drive.

Also is the stock cooler on the i5 adequate enough or should I go for an aftermarket one. I can stretch a bit more money if it will benefit the system.

What kind of light gaming? If you mean stuff like casual/2D/flash games you can (almost) cut the budget in half. £400-500 should be OK. Give these guys a challenge :p

Also recommending a -K CPU when the OP has said "stock speeds" is silly.

Bit of everything gaming wise. At the moment I can't play any newer games cause my current system is so old and struggles to do anything. I'm not going to upgrade any big components for a while so I need it to last and want it so it can do everything.

Well cheaper would be better, I am quite liking Stulid's second spec at the moment.

The SSD is awful when compared to others, it suffered from a switch of memory chips used when compared to the review versions sent out.

Thanks for the info regarding the SSD. Think I will scrap that idea.

Yep that's a nice system, although you might as well take the memory from tamzzy's and save a tenner, there will be no difference between them.

Also if you miss the week only deal on the PSU you can get the 450 W one with no trouble and save another fiver. The R9 270 uses 250 W ish total so both are generous.

or take my whole spec ;p lol

for £720 you get a 280 (which is easily 30% better than a 270) and a heatsink
but no hdd storage (but that can always be easily added later)

They'd both make very nice systems! I didn't write yours was my fave though because the 280 costs 50% more than the 270, for 30% more performance say, so it's not as good value. And, to fit it in you've cut money from the case* and storage to make up the difference, so I think stulid's is better overall, more balanced. Especially because the OP is not looking for extreme gaming.

The cooler isn't needed because there's no OCing going on here, so actually a CPU like the i5-4440 might be a better choice - saves about £35 that could go into the GPU or SSD, case, whatever. Same for the Z97 mobos, not needed, a £40 mobo would be fine.

* Edit oops actually the OP wants that case so fair enough.
