650D - dusty case!

Finally the 'DEMCiflex Dust Filter Kit for Corsair 650D - black / black' came into stock at OCUK. I just ordered one. Looking forward to trying them out.

you have more air being forced out via the fans than you have being forced in, this renders the fan filter on the front of the case useless.

Not necessarily a bad thing if you're looking to draw more airflow through your case, but yeah I agree if you don't have ample filters, its gon' get pretty damn dusty up in here

So I'm considering all this again as doing a new build and can change things. The general advice seems to be positive pressure by having front and top as intakes and rear as exhaust plus using filters at all intakes which sounds fine.

But I have two msi lightning factory overclocked 7970 cards each with two huge fans. I'm wondering how that will affect things - whether they will become the focal point of the hot air given the config above.

Plus also wondering whether to have psu drawing air from outside or from within case given that the two gpus will be blowing directly onto psu so maybe better to get air from outside? Any thoughts appreciated. Any of you have dual gpu setup in this case?

P.S. Also what fans are you guys using? I was using SP120 and AF120 both quiet editions but now thinking maybe I need higher rpms given the new config above being intake heavy with filters.

This is relevant to my interests.

I have a 350D and I've only got the filters that it came with.

Got 2x 140mm and a 120mm as intakes (front and rear) with 2x 140s for exhausting (through the top).

So there should be a slightly positive pressure in the case pushing out any unwanted dust trying to get its way in through cracks and gaps.

But the rear fan has that bulging out section of metal so I don't know what fan cover to get for it - want an external cover so it's easier and faster to remove and clean - that and one all the way inside would force all the dust to float around the fan itself, and I like to think that less dust in the bearings means longer life, even if mounting the filter internally would be easier

So on the advice of this thread I bought the 650D dust filter kit. Here was my experience with it. I couldn't use the rear filter because it was an exhaust. I couldn't use the side window filter as you can't filter a window! I couldn't use the front filter because I'd dremelled off the front fan grill so there was nothing to support the magnetic filter. The only filter I was able to use was the top one. So in essence I ended up paying £45 for just a top filter! I should have realised this before. Maybe it would have been better to get a top filter + custom front filter made by demciflex. Anyway, posting here to let others know of this potential pitfall.

P.S. Anyone know whether any of the filters on OCUK would fit the front (with the grill having been cut off)?

If you havent already, change the stock front 200mm fan. It moves hardly any air so doesn't help the whole negative pressure problem. I fitted a bitfenix Spectre Pro, the coolermaster megaflow is another good option. I did however have to space the spectre pro away from the mesh as it made a vibrating noise. I simply cut the frame off the stock fan and used it as a spacer and now the spectre pro is pretty much silent.

If you read one of my posts above reference the front filter i ordered a custom made one which was either 210mm/215mm or 220mm (can't remember off the top of my head) so it would cover the cut-out mod of the front grill mesh, all you need to do then is to run some black insulation tape around the edges of it so it stays stuck to the case, obviously the stock one that comes with the kit is only 200mm so it isn't going to fit over a large hole that you have cut away and then stay stuck to the case. You can order custom ones direct from Demciflex.

The cleaning of it is easy, just use a hoover and occasionally a lightly dampened micro fibre cloth over the front of it.
