Will using a 65w bulb in a lamp rated for 60w make very bad things happen? The bulb is a compact fluorescent full spectrum type, and I will be using it without the shade.

It will function without a problem. The only side effect is that the bulb will slightly overheat the fixture, possibly decreasing its lifespan.

I've never seen a fluorescent bulb that uses 65w, only the tubes. Even my 150w equivalent 2500k uses about 30w

You've probably read it wrong, a fluorescent bulb won't consume 65w unless is a massive tube. You'd be looking at about 300w equivalent to get that sort of consumption out of an fluorescent

This bulb is probably the biggest I have ever seen. The tube is about the size of a pineapple.

This is what eats at me; im there busting my backside to ensure I recycle stuff and then you have hooligans like this, who care not for the Earth we reside upon and are recklessly using 65w bulbs.

My post has nothing to do with anything what so ever.

Is this a ceiling bulb holder or table lamp bulb holder.

The extra 5 watts will make little difference in terms of heat around the bulb and holder, particularly with no shade in use. It will make slightly more difference in a ceiling light over table lamp - extra heat generated will be trapped more at the same height as the bulb whereas with table lamp it has plenty of space to rise into above it.

I would be a little more concerned with the internal wiring of the lamp and holder ... Run it for a few hours and check for any excessive heating of the wire. Again I would be surprised if the tolerances meant that extra 5watts did anything adverse.
