Hello all,

I'm after a new card, my 560 is stuggling to play Witcher 2, I've got about £350 to spend, I notice I can get either x2 660 and sli them or a single 670, whats best.

on a different note, what card is the most silent and cool..

The witcher 2 is very demanding in my opinion. My 670 sli can run it max settings however that's with ubersampling disabled. When enabled my fps almost hit the floor.

Sli 660 I think and I may be wrong will be better than a single 670.
 
However, its a dual card set-up.
More heat, higher power consumption, louder. If it were my money, I'd go for a single 670/7950. That way you still have a upgrade path.

A single one of them should do pretty much all games on maximum for the time being.

Can your motherboard support it?
Is your PSU big enough?

E: The windforce cards are very cool and quiet. (For both AMD and Nvidia).

my MB can do SLI and I have a XFX 750W psu.. should be ok I think??

So it's still kinda split on what would be best bang for £?

Your PSU is good enough.

In terms of sheer performance, the SLI 660's would win. But you have to consider future upgrades. (You would be unable to add another 660, but you could add another 670).
 
I think 660 sli sounds like a good option.

They have been for sale for around £100 and 2 in sli would be faster than a 680.

But if your doing higher than 1080p or playing games with lots of mods then the 192 memory will be an issue.
 
Wait come to think of it witcher 2 is one of them older games that chews up memory bandwidth.

I dare say that the 660 sli might not be the best option for that game.
 
If it's to mainly play the Witcher 2 then the 7950/7970 wins for cost/performance going by this :

660 sli is marginally quicker than a single 7970 Ghz Edition, but I'd much rather have a single card over sli / crossfire anyday - less hassle.

Although that is performance in only one game though.


If it had to be NVidia, then consider 650Ti Boost SLI if you want to save yourself a few £££'s.

They're still quicker than a GTX 680 & can be found for around £135-£140 each. A 650Ti Boost overclocked will almost match a 660 for performance.

Obviously the 660 can clock as well though. And most seem to top out around 1150-1200mhz.

All depends how much you want to spend really.

if you're set on GTX 660 SLI then I'd maybe also consider looking for 3GB 660 cards like the EVGA FTW Signature2, as they can be found for only £5 more than the KFA2 card you linked to.

You can't SLI the 650, or the 650Ti, but you can the 650Ti Boost cards.

Thank NVidia for confusing naming convention...

650Ti Boost cards are the only 650 series cards that have SLI connectors.

There's 3-4 reviews for 650Ti Boost SLI so I'd google them & have a read.

I'm a bit confused now, I've had a serious look at the 650 on OCUK, and it says they are all SLI ready in the description the non TI, TI and Boost versions.. has Nvida updated them so they can all now do SLI?

IE for example:

MSI GeForce GTX 650 Black Knight OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Core: 1071MHz, Memory: 2048MB 5000MHz GDDR5, Stream Processors: 384, Shader Clock: 2242MHz, SLI Ready, PhysX/CUDA Enabled, 3 Years Warranty.

That's OcUK's fault.

They are the only site I've come across that lists non-650Ti Boost cards as SLI compatable.


Check NVidia's website for proof :

650 Ti - no SLI support shown in the 'Product Info' panel on the left side
